Gone are the days when reviews about companies, their performance and their products were just ornamental in their functionality. These days, customer feedbacks and reviews have the potential to make or break a company. Customers and experts outside the company are like Gods and their opinion is taken as the final verdict. These days there are reviews for a lot of major companies and people trust these reviews more than anything else while selecting a company for services. So nowadays, companies have become wiser. They are heeding the words of the reviews and taking them as golden words for self improvement.

For authentic reviews of many companies you can browse through websites such as Yahoo Local, Menu Pages, Yelp, UrbanSpoon and City Search. These websites have a list of user reviews which you can read to get the inside picture of any company. These user-generated reviews have become a popular option these days with many people. User-generated reviews are there for quite sometime now but it’s only during the past of couple of years that they’ve gained widespread popularity. Blogging forums are another place where you can expect to find some free, honest and customer feedback importanceauthentic opinion about any company, product or service. There are company business blogging forums as well as general blogging forums where you can get opinion about different companies. I suggest that you don’t depend too much on what the company has to say about itself because naturally it will talk in the positive about itself. Third party opinions are always more reliable. But then again it depends on the knowledge and judgmental skills of the third party. Biased and ill-informed opinions are not to be taken.

Many websites hire dedicated writers and reviewers for conducting a first hand survey on the companies and writing out their opinions. There are citizen reviewers who are doing a great job these days. Of course, there are mystery shoppers too who give authentic information about the customer services of a company. Review sites like Yelp have dedicated reviewers who’ve been working for them for the past 5-6 years. Some of them have a huge fan following who religiously follow their reviews.

The reviews provided by small time reviewers don’t carry the same gravity like those published by big media websites but they can certainly bring out what’s happening in a company. At least you’ll get an idea of what’s right or wrong about a certain company. Here’s what Bill DeGroot, GM Metro Brasserie has to say about his personal experience with business reviews as such, according to smSmallBiz, “After the initial new restaurant buzz wore off, we hit a lull. After the initial new restaurant buzz wore off, we hit a lull. It is a very powerful medium.”

Online reviews cover a wide range of audience and when the opinion is good the company benefits greatly and a badly performing company really suffers because of the bad reputation that it gains.
