Beware Of These Types of Internet Scams
Internet Fraud | October 29, 2009 at 7:25 amHave you got a mail from a “big guy” of some country who has fallen in trouble and wants to keep his money in your account for some days? Don’t ever fall for this scam! You might end up being behind bars for playing accomplice to the sender of this mail.
This is not the only scam doing the rounds. There are a plethora of Internet scams that keep happening every now and then. The advantage of not coming into personal contact with the victim or the venue of crime gives the perpetrator of crime an opportunity to get away. A person sitting in some remote part of the world mishandles your bank account by fooling you and gets away. Isn’t it difficult for you to catch him/her?
Here are some exemplary types of internet scams that have been happening for almost a decade now. Just take a note of them so that you don’t fall for similar scams if you happen to encounter some in your cyber communications.
401 Fraud of Nigeria
Have you got an email from some “exiled politician” of a country wanting to keep his money in your account and pay you up a part of the amount for your services? If you have, don’t ever open that mail if you haven’t yet because you might be charged with the Nigerian 401 penal code for being an accomplice to a fraudster who was trying to accumulate wealth by looting banks! Unfortunately many people have fallen for this scam and about $ 32 billion has been looted this way.
Phoney Bank websites
I’ve never really trusted online bank transactions much and now I’m thankful for that. Did you know that there are some phoney websites that are built exactly similar to your bank websites which you access to only get money in your account looted? Beware of emails telling you that your bank website has gone a modification and you need to enter your bank user name and password for them to set your data right. Entering your information is enough for the criminals to access your account and wipe off your entire balance.
Paypal Scams
You trust Paypal in keeping your account information secure. Paypal actually does that. But it cannot stop the activities of notorious criminals who operate on their databases. You might get an email stating that your email-id and password are required as a part of a security check. Once you enter the information, it’s not paypal but the con man who works on the information to clean off your bank account.
Online Money Making Scams
If you are internet savvy, by now, you might have come across hordes of classifieds asking you to join work at home programs like Pay per Click or posting on Google Ad sense which will promise huge returns to you. They ask you to make investments and then vanish from the scene. Beware of these scamming websites because if you invest more than once in such programs you lose your money. Of course, not all websites are con sites. There are some genuine ones that really pay you good money.
